PM calls private innovation meeting for Friday at Penrith

Western Sydney University at Penrith will host a small group of leaders on Friday to discuss increasing Australia’s industry and business collaboration performance.

The Australian Financial Review reports that the meeting will be one of the first moves by prime minister Malcolm Turnbull to address a stated need to increase innovation in industry. Australia’s business and research collaboration performance is ranked last in the OECD.

The AFR contrasts this with the “hands off” approach of former PM Tony Abbott, who was overthrown by Turnbull in a leadership vote last month.

According to the report, attendees will number around 20, include new industry minister Christopher Pyne, Lindsay MP Fiona Scott, and UTS Business School Dean Professor Roy Green.
