A new Silver Fern Farms factory for sausage casings will create 40 jobs in Finegand, South Otago.
Fairfax reports that the factory will turn green runners (intestines) into sausage casings, a process that the company used to outsource to China. These pre-processed runners will come from four Silver Fern Farms facilities.
“This development will create 40 new fulltime roles across our Balclutha-Finegand operations,” CEO for Silver Fern, Keith Cooper, said.
“It will create value from a product that will add to the profitability of our sheepmeat business in the short to medium term."
