Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr and Minister and Minister for Defence Materiel Greg Combet today announced Tony Quick as director of the new Enterprise Connect Defence Industry Innovation Centre.
The Defence Industry Innovation Centre is a part of the Australian Government’s Enterprise Connect program and will offer a range of hands-on services to small to medium enterprises in the Defence industry sector.
The Centre is a key element of the Rudd Government’s $61 million defence industry skilling package.
“Mr Quick has the expertise and enthusiasm to make this Centre a success,” Senator Carr said.
“Defence industries are an important part of Australia’s manufacturing sector and through this Centre, the Australian Government is ensuring businesses have the best chance to succeed and compete at a global level.”
Mr Quick joins Enterprise Connect with an extensive background in the defence industry most recently as Director and General Manager of GKN Aerospace Engineering Services, an Australian company heavily involved the Joint Strike Fighter project.
Greg Combet congratulated Mr Quick on his appointment.
“Mr Quick’s impressive background working in the defence industries makes him perfectly suited to run this Centre.
“Services that will be provided through the centre include free business reviews and supporting grants, to help boost productivity and increase their ability to compete in international markets.” Mr Combet said.
Mr Quick said he was pleased to be participating in the Enterprise Connect program.
“Through this Centre, businesses operating in a wide range of defence industries will be able to access the support and assistance they require to compete on an international level,” Mr Quick said.
