Manufacturing workers sacked same day as $6.8m lottery win

Eighteen employees at an Ottawa manufacturing plant have won a C$7m Lotto prize the same day ten of them got layoff notices, the Sun Herald has reported.

The winning numbers were drawn yesterday, reportedly the same day as manufacturers Calgary-based SMART technologies announced massive layoff about of 200 its 300 employee.

The redundancies come as a result of the plant shifting its manufacturing to Mexico.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation confirmed the winning ticket was shared among a group of people from Ottawa, but said the winners have to go through a verification process, the report reads.
