Lockheed Martin Australia Ltd CEO, Paul Johnson, has announced the appointment of Trevor J. Thomas, 55, to fill the newly-created position of senior communications manager for the Asia-Pacific region.
Johnson said the new appointment comes at a pivotal time in Lockheed Martin’s plans to significantly expand both its civil and defence business in Australia, as previously outlined during an April 2009 visit to Canberra by its Chairman, President and CEO, Robert J. Stevens.
Thomas has spent the last decade as head of Business Communications Group (Busicom), the former publishers of Australian Defence Business Review (ADBR) magazine; the weekly Defence Industry & Aerospace Report (DIAR.com) e-Newsletter; the weekly Inside Canberra e-Newsletter; and several other key industry and trade journals.
Prior to that, Thomas had an extensive career in representations to the Federal government on behalf of industry, and international trade policy advocacy.
"Not only has he established over the past decade a respected position as a defence analyst and commentator, but Trevor also brings with him commercial experience as an entrepreneur in his own right (having run his own publishing company), as well as wide experience in dealing with small, medium and large companies across Australia and New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region," said Johnson.
"These skills will be extremely valuable in assisting Lockheed Martin Australia communications as it progressively grows its business and builds valuable partnerships with other local enterprises. I have great confidence in Trevor’s ability to craft a comprehensive communications strategy for our enterprise, as well as speak with authority for the company across the Asia-Pacific region.
"In his new role, Trevor will be responsible for advising on Lockheed Martin communications planning and direction over a broad geographic region spanning India through Southeast Asia and north to South Korea and Japan.
“He will also serve as Lockheed Martin’s chief media spokesperson, as part of his responsibilities to manage the development, planning and conduct of public relations and community programs to improve and support Lockheed Martin business objectives with the public, industry, stockholders and/or employees.
“In carrying out these roles, he will work to ensure alignment with the organisation’s communications functional strategy to enhance integrated positioning for the company."
