Jacob’s Creek benefits from Chinese thirst

Jacob’s Creek’s owner Pernod Ricard has credited strong demand from emerging markets such as China and a focus on premium wines with an increase in global sales.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Jacob’s Creek, the number one Australian wine brand by value and volume, increased its global sales by 2 per cent in 2011-2012.

“Our performance in emerging markets has seen us grow our footprint and solidify our brands, achieving [more than] 30 per cent net sales growth,” said Jean Christophe Coutures, the chairman and CEO of Premium Wine Brands (Pernod’s wine unit).

The country’s second-biggest winemaker, Treasury Wine Estates (which demerged from Foster’s Group last year) reported a 31 % boost in volume for China and Hong Kong.

The news of Jacob’s Creek’s result comes soon after Casella announced a plan to add a premium range of its Yellow Tail range, also reported in the Herald.

Casella has also announced that it is looking to increase its sales to China.
