Adelaide company Inconmat Australia has announced plans to spend $2 million on facilities to begin the manufacturing of composite rebar.
The construction materials supplier has previously sourced V-Rod – glass-reinforced polymer bar – from Canada, where it has been used for more than two decades, said managing director Darren Lutze.
“The construction industry is used to a very quick last minute turn around and by manufacturing locally we will be able to work more closely to the norm and expectation of the industry,” he told The Advertiser.
“We intend to be manufacturing V-Rod in Adelaide shortly.”
Lutze said his company would take on as many as ten workers with the local manufacturing plans.
V-Rod has been supplied to over 50 projects in Australia, including wharf upgrades at Sydney Harbour, according to the company.
Among the benefits of the non-steel rebar is its resistance to corrosion.
