Healthcare biggest employer, manufacturing down in Victoria: census

The most recent Australian Bureau of Statistics employment figures have shown that the healthcare sector employs more Australians than any other, with manufacturing and retail down since the previous census.

Ageing, health and social care employ 11.6 per cent of Australian workers, overtaking retail as the number one employer, reports The Age.

Mining grew the fastest of all the sectors, but only employs 1.8 per cent of the work force.

Victoria’s results saw manufacturing down to 10.7 per cent of its workforce, slipping behind retail, the state’s second-biggest employer behind healthcare.
