Queensland-based building fitting and fixture supplier GWA Group has said that it hopes to save $4 million a year by cutting 230 jobs.
The job cuts come after GWA announced in October that it was conducting a market review in response to weak housing and construction conditions. Half of the jobs lost will be in NSW and 42 will be in South Australia.
"It has been a tough market for us and we have undertaken a review of it. It's a hard decision but we need to address our cost base to make sure we are cost-effective,'' managing director Peter Crowley told Adelaide Now.
GWA Group listed on the ASX in 1993 and operates through the three divions GWA Bathrooms & Kitchens, GWA Heating & Cooling, and GWA Door & Access Systems. Its brands include Caroma, Stylus and Fowler.
The ABC reports that efficiencies will include rolling the Gliderol garage doors into Gainsborough and combining Dux Hot Water with GWA Bathrooms and Kitchens.
