It is available in the diameter range 12 to 25mm and, depending on the requirements for the part, corner radii from 0.2 to 4mm can be chosen.

Extremely unequal flute spacing ensures smooth machining. Axial coolant supply and a reduced neck ensures process reliability when used in deep contours.

The flow of chips is supported to an optimum by the axial exit of coolant and the polished flutes. In combination with the special cutting micro-geometry, the polished flutes prevent the built-up edges from developing – a requirement for outstanding surface quality.

The cutting edges have been given an ACN coating (AlCrN) to increase the tool life. The surface of the shank has been treated such that a higher torque can be transmitted. In this way greater process reliability can be assured.

The Protostar Ti 40 makes slot milling possible up to a depth of cut 1.5 x D. Cutting speeds up to 80m/min can be reached. According to present-day information, Vc values of 30 – 50m/min are now common for such machining work.
