Melbourne-based Ethan Automotive is considering opening a small-scale car
factory at Edinburgh Parks in South Australia.
News Corp reports that Ethan plans to be creating prototype vehicles, the
first model of which would be a real-wheel drive, in 2017. Plans also include producing
12,000 vehicles in 2018, employing over 300 workers, and a business model that
involves selling direct to customers.
Spokeswoman Brigid Mahoney said the company was in discussions with the SA
government, and had originally considered Holden’s Elizabeth factory. The scale
of the facility and the use of global platforms for car manufacturing were
unsuitable for Ethan Automotive’s plans.
“We’ve looked at different aspects of that business and realised high
volume will not work for us,” she told News Corp.
