Big rise in manufacturing sales: Stats NZ survey

New Zealand’s
manufacturing sales, led by meat and dairy, saw a record increase in the
December quarter.

Statistics New Zealand figures released this morning showed that overall sales were up 0.9 per cent,
and exports by volume for dairy and meat were up 23 and 5.5 per cent
respectively.

“The large meat and dairy volume
increase is also seen in export volume rises for dairy and meat
products,” said Statistics NZ’s industry and labour statistics
manager Blair Cardno.

“However, it’s not all about meat
and dairy, with other manufacturing industries also continuing to show
increases.”

Eight of 12 sub-sectors saw increases in their sales, with overall sales up 5.7 per cent.

The transport equipment, and machinery and
equipment manufacturing category saw a sales increase of 5.9 per cent,
and fruit, oil, cereal, and other food manufacturing jumped exactly
5 per cent.
