Australian trade skills light up Calgary competition

The Skillaroos, Australia's Olympic trade team, competing in the recent 2009 World Skills International Competition in Canada doubled its medal count and maintained its high international ranking.

The Skillaroos — Australia’s Olympic trade team – competing in the recent 2009 World Skills International Competition in Canada doubled its medal count and maintained its high international ranking.

The Skillaroos 26 team members won 2 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals at the international competition to finish fifth in the rankings.

The competition attracted teams from 50 countries battling it out for awards in over 26 categories such as landscape gardening, plumbing, bricklaying and automobile technology.

The Australian Skillaroos were chosen from the 2008 World Skills National Competition where they competed amongst 500 of their peers from 30 regions across Australia.
