A 20-year veteran of the medical device industry, Barry Thomas of Australia’s Cook Medical, has been awarded a 2012 Australian Export Hero Award.
The Export Hero Award, created ten years ago by the Australian Institute of Export, reportedly recognises the people behind companies that achieve outstanding export results.
Thomas was one of seven people recognised with a 2012 Export Hero Award this month.
Thomas is managing director of Cook Australia and Cook Medical Vice President, Director – Asia Pacific.
According to Thomas, the Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region for the global medical device company.
“Widely recognised as a visionary at the forefront of trends in the medical device field, Barry Thomas has led the Australian based business through tough economic times for exporters, to deliver double digit growth and exports to over 135 countries,” said a press notice from Cook Medical.
“Barry is passionate about high-end Australian manufacturing, a staunch supporter of local R&D, and the export of Australian products and expertise not only to our Asia Pacific neighbours, but also globally. In fact, approximately 80% of what is manufactured by Cook Medical in Australia is exported.”
The Australian Export Heroes Program has been running since 1997.
Every year, the Australian Institute of Export has invited ninety-four of the country’s leading exporters to join the Australian Export Heroes register.
Amongst them are representative across all industries, including The Wiggles, Gina Rhinehart, and now Cook Medical’s Barry Thomas.
