Australian manufacturing and mining jobs trending up, says SEEK

SEEK has released data showing 6.6 per cent more job ads listed on the website this April when compared to last April, with growth across all states and territories. Mining and manufacturing are some of the sectors that have seen growth this year.

South Australia leads the nation in job growth, with 18.4 per cent more jobs year-on-year, followed by Western Australia with 12.7 per cent.

In SA, growth can be seen in trades and services roles (up 34 per cent), manufacturing, transport and logistics (up 7 per cent) and healthcare and medical (up 4 per cent).

In WA however, most growth can be attributed to an upturn in the mining, resources and energy sector. According to SEEK ANZ managing director Michael Ilczynski, growth in this sector is not limited to April, with the past three months seeing an advertising increase of 70 per cent compared to the same period last year.

SEEK jobs ads increased 10.1 per cent in Tasmania, 8.8 per cent in Queensland, 7.4 per cent in Victoria, 5.5 per cent in the ACT, 2.3 per cent in NSW and 1.2 per cent in the Northern Territory.

Australia’s unemployment rate also dropped to 5.7 per cent this April, due to the creation of over 37,000 jobs.
