Apple names its US manufacturer

Technology giant Apple has named a Quanta Computer operation in Silicon Valley as the new home for its United States-based manufacturing plant.

Apple made headlines late last year after announcing it would spend nearly $100 million in 2013 shifting production of one of its Mac computer lines from China back to the US.

At the time Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company had a “responsibility to create jobs” in the US, breaking with former CEO Steve Jobs who claimed the manufacturing jobs were “never coming back”.

The Quanta facility in California has been named as one of Apple's “final assembly facilities” and while Cook last year claimed one line of Macs would be made exclusively in the US, no further details have emerged on the company's manufacturing plans.
