AMWU visits manufacturing factory

Union national secretary Paul Bastian will visit Newcastle’s oldest and most advanced manufacturing and engineering company, Varley Engineering factory today, to discuss the challenges facing the local manufacturers and the industry, the Australian reports.

Bastin pointed out that the manufacturing industry has reported 125,000 job losses since 2009.

He went on to say that the visit held significant importance as approximately 85,000 manufacturing jobs across the country were still at risk.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union’s (AMWU) Hunter Valley factory visit aims towards bolstering employment in the manufacturing sector.
