AH Beard to open Chinese facility next month

Fourth-generation bedding and mattress manufacturer AH Beard will open a facility in Shanghai, China next month.

Business Spectator reports that the company, established in 1899 as Australian Bedding Mills, will expand into China with the facility opening by former Prime Minister John Howard, to be held on July 6. The company opened AH Beard New Zealand, based in Auckland, in 1996.

AH Beard makes 5,000 mattresses a week and has seven different brands. It entered the Family Business Hall of Fame in 2012.

Clarification: A previous version of this article had the word "factory" used instead of "facility" in the headline, opening paragraph and second paragraph. This was inaccurate. We would like to correct the error and apologise for any confusion.
