Adelaide Brighton and others interested in Penrice Soda quarry

Construction materials company Adelaide Brighton and others are interested in Penrice Soda’s Angaston quarry, one of two major assets belonging to the collapsed company that are up for sale.

The Australian Financial Review reports that Adelaide Brighton was a major customer of Penrice’s limestone and marble quarry and has a cement plant nearby.

Penrice was put in administration in April. The troubled sodium bicarbonate and quicklime business is under administration by McGrathNicol and also has a sodium bicarbonate plant at Osborne, which has attracted less interest than the quarry.

Adelaide Brighton is a group of companies serving sectors including construction and infrastructure. It has a market capitalisation of about $2 billion, operates in all states and territories, and employs 1,600.

The AFR reports that Adelaide Brighton has until the 25th of this month to lodge a final and binding bid, as is the case for other shortlisted bidders.
