160 employees at Silcar will be made redundant in January.
The company lost a contract at BlueScope Steel’s Western Point site, where Silcar has provided “maintenance and asset management services” since 2004. The site is near Hastings, Victoria.
"With the expiry of this agreement, Silcar will cease operations at Bluescope Hastings on January 26th 2013," Silcar said in a statement quoted by Fairfax Media.
Silcar, a joint venture between Thiess Services and Siemens, has won significant construction contracts for the federal government’s NBN.
