$100 million Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre launched

Swinburne University has officially launched its new $100 million Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre at Hawthorn.

News Corp reports the centre as being described by Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson as a collaborative space where students will gain experience and industries forge relationships.

“For Australia’s industries to prosper, we need to bring together imaginative ideas with technological know-how,“ said Professor Kristjanson.

The centre was officially launched by senator Scott Ryan, parliamentary secretary to the education mininster, and was opened last year. It was supported through $40 million from the Education Investment Fund.

The 11-storey building includes labs, lecture theatres, an industry engagement area, the dome-shaped Factory of The Future, and the Australian Research Council Training Centre in Biodevices.

The building was designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects in partnership with Jacobs Australia.
