NSW’s largest workplace safety event, The Safety Show Sydney, will throw the spotlight on the latest safety technologies when it runs from October 28 to 30 this year.
Held alongside The Safety Show is Sydney Materials Handling, a show dedicated to load, move and shift solutions.
The two events will host more than 350 occupational health and safety specialists across three and a half acres at the Sydney Showground offering everything from asbestos removal to warehouse management systems.
A host of fresh exhibitors spanning storage, matting, fencing and even hand surgery, will debut at The Safety Show in 2008.
In a first, Australia’s leading manufacturing magazine, Manufacturers Monthly, will lead daily tours guiding visitors through the heart of the two trade shows to the newest factory and warehouse safety solutions.
The aim is to make it easy for visitors to be sure they are up to date with best practice OHS, says organiser, Marie Kinsella of Australian Exhibitions & Conferences.
“Employers are obliged to do everything practicable to make workplaces safe,” she said, “and you can only be sure you have that covered if you’re aware of all the latest developments in OHS solutions.”
“The challenge is keeping abreast of such a rapidly changing field. When you walk through The Safety Show, you’re doing a whole year’s work in two or three hours.
“We’ve decided to capitalise on that and take visitors directly to the latest safety tools so you can get a very quick snapshot of what’s new this year,” Kinsella said.
The hands-on emphasis of The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling carries through to full demonstration stage and safety theatre programs, which will let visitors see products from a diverse range of exhibitors in action.
Also new to the two trade shows is the Sustainability Showcase that will house environmentally friendly safety solutions.
“Many visitors are accountable for the triple bottom line and quite a few exhibitors at The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling have developed products and services to make it easy to manage both,” Kinsella said.
The Safety Show will also focus on safety solutions for the building and construction industry this year, with a special feature area that incorporates height safety equipment, scaffolding safety nets, ventilation, flooring, electronic data capture systems, appliance tagging and testing, safety and isolation switches, and power distribution boards.
Regarded as one of Australia’s most dangerous industries, building and construction has a workplace death toll twice the Australian average.
Principal Sponsor, WorkCover NSW, run a series of free workshops at The Safety Show on a range of workplace safety and workers compensation issues.
The workshops will help businesses improve workplace safety, meet their workers compensation obligations and manage a situation where a worker is injured.
Those keen to enrich their professional OHS knowledge can register as delegates to The Safety Conference, which is held concurrently with the two trade shows.
The conference program will explore the themes of Challenging Safety Energies; Training & Development: Ready, Willing and Able; Corporate Governance & Business Sustainability; Change Management; Critical Incident Management, Preparation, Recovery & Investigation; Practical Risk Management Solutions; and The Human Face of Safety.
Among the other highlights of the Conference will be the WorkCover NSW Hypothetical, which engages unions, employer groups and WorkCover in dynamic debate as they confront hypothetical safety challenges.
The Safety Show Sydney and Sydney Materials Handling will run following Safe Work Australia Week from October 28 to 30 at the Sydney Showground.
