New category rewards connections

There is no doubt that Australian manufacturing has experienced more than its fair share of hardship over the years with increasing competition from low-cost, low-wage producers as well as the current pressures from the global recession and an emerging clean energy economy.

Yet despite these challenges, the sector continues to remain resilient and in some areas, grow. And a large part of the industry’s success can be attributed to enterprising Australian companies who have taken the steps to review their business processes and utilise assistance available to help them develop innovative and high tech manufacturing processes.

In recognition of these enterprising Australian companies, Manufacturers’ Monthly is pleased to announce an exciting new category for the 2010 Endeavour Awards, the Enterprise Connect Significant Achievement Award.

Michael Burges, NSW Marketing and Promotions with Enterprise Connect, says the award is designed to recognise the achievements of an Australian manufacturing SME who has significantly transformed their business practices with the assistance of the Enterprise Connect program.

“Enterprise Connect provides comprehensive support to Australian SMEs, who make up a vital part of Australia’s economic future,” Burges said.

“Our small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the economy. Enterprise Connect works with these enterprises to improve their efficiency, raise their productivity, develop new ideas or tackle a problem that is hampering profitability.

“This involves commitment and application on the part of a business and brings real benefits in terms of jobs, economic returns and innovation to Australia,” he told Manufacturers’ Monthly.

“Their efforts deserve recognition and Enterprise Connect is ideally placed to champion the achievements of leading Australian manufacturing SMEs,” Burges added.

Enterprise Connect is the Federal Government’s flagship program to help Australian firms develop the skills, tools and knowledge needed to improve their competitiveness and productivity and to maximise their growth potential.
