Nepean installs giant lathe

Nepean Engineering & Innovation has installed a $1.75 million vertical lathe from Hankook Machine Tools.

The lathe, a Hankook VTC 3040E model, has a table capacity of 30,000 kg, a 4 m maximum turning diameter and a 2.5 m maximum turning height, and was installed over a five-week period.

Managing director David Fuller said the lathe was, “A very exciting addition to our machine shop, no doubt this machine will become the busiest by a long shot in the coming months.

“The demand for quality is already there and the new lathe will give us the edge to compete on price and delivery speed.”

According to company, the Hankook machine would boost speed and efficiency when creating round-shaped engineered steel objects such as gears, ventilation impellers and fans.

Nepean Engineering & Innovation is a division of Narellan-based Nepean, which was established in 1974, and provides work including engineering, mining and metal manufacturing services.
