NatureFlex compostable packaging film provides fairy-tale ending for premium sweets

NatureFlex, a compostable cellulose-based packaging film produced by Innovia Films has been selected by leading UK confectioner, Miss Muffet & Co to wrap its range of fairy-tale and nursery rhyme inspired premium sweets.

Miss Muffet & Co is a UK based company set up by Sarah Cadman, who has a philosophy of using natural ingredients wherever possible.

Sarah explains that it was really important for Miss Muffet & Co to ensure that its packaging had minimal environmental impact and also had to be transparent to clearly show the contents.

Innovia Films’ transparent NatureFlex compostable packaging film was chosen primarily due to its environmental credentials in addition to its capability to keep Miss Muffet & Co’s sweets fresh tasting and looking good.

Certified to meet the European EN13432, American ASTM D6400 and Australian AS4736 standards for compostable packaging, NatureFlex compostable packaging films are made using wood pulp sourced from managed plantations operating Good Forestry principles (FSC or equivalent).

The renewable bio-based content of NatureFlex packaging films is typically 95% by weight of material according to ASTM D6866. NatureFlex has been confirmed as suitable for emerging ‘waste to energy’ techniques such as anaerobic digestion, aiding the diversion of organic wastes from landfill.

NatureFlex NE transparent packaging film is used to flow wrap Miss Muffet & Co sweets, which are then packed in beautifully designed, story book-shaped ‘keepsake’ boxes, with drawings by children’s illustrator, Rosie Brooks.

According to Paul McKeown, Innovia Films’ UK sales manager, the use of NatureFlex compostable packaging film by Miss Muffet & Co is an excellent example of a company planning its packaging to meet its ethical product strategy.

NatureFlex is a registered trademark of Innovia Films Group, a major producer of labels and security films, coated packaging, overwrap as well as renewable and compostable films.
