National Manufacturing Week 2009 Preview

NATIONAL Manufacturing Week, Australia’s biggest annual manufacturing exhibition, returns to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 12-15.

According to organiser Reed Exhibitions, NMW 2009 is not only a truly ‘one-stop’ show for anyone in the manufacturing sector, visitors to this year’s event will have the opportunity to see and evaluate the latest products, services and emerging technologies face-to-face at what is said to be the largest show ever.

NMW 2009 will incorporate pavilions catering for the automation, electronic, electrical, process engineering, machine tools, welding, safety and logistics/materials handling sectors.

According to Paul Baker, exhibition manager for the event, for exhibitors and visitors NMW is now the only event that brings together market leaders from a wide selection of national and international manufacturing communities.

“For the first time, participants in the Victorian manufacturing sector will see our expanded ‘shows-within-a-show’ concept, now including the electronics and electrical sectors.”

These include the new Electrix and Austronics pavilions — which will be shown in Melbourne for the first time, supplemented by an enhanced Automation & Robotics pavilion, the fastest-growing sector of NMW since being launched in 2006, which will give NMW a significantly wider appeal for visitors.

Electrix will feature a comprehensive range of high-tech products, services and technologies for the electrical sector.

The electronics industry will be catered for with the new Austronics pavilion which is endorsed and supported by peak industry associations such as the Surface Mount and Circuit Board Association (SMCBA).

It will showcase the very latest electronics solutions for the manufacturing sector. In addition, the SMCBA will hold a three-day conference alongside Austronics.

Also new to NMW 2009 will be a fully-integrated logistics, materials handling & distribution pavilion, showcasing key aspects of logistics, materials handling and distribution, from raw materials to production, through to warehousing.

These new attractions will line up alongside NMW favourites including AIEE (general manufacturing); Air Technology; Austech (machine tools — organised by AMTIL); CIMTech (computer technology); Health & Safety; ICEX (process, control & instrumentation); and WeldTech (welding, joining and heat-treatment equipment).

At the same time as NMW, a number of related conferences and events will be held alongside the exhibition.

The Surface Mount and Circuit Board Association’s 20th annual conference, Surface Mount 2009, will again be held as part of this year’s show.

The conference will run over three days from May 12-14, with a line-up of high-profile international and Australian speakers from the surface mount industry.
