National Forklift Championship starts next month

AUSTRALIAN forklift drivers will be able to test their knowledge and skills in the 2010 National Forklift Championship.

This year the competition will be organised by a new operational body called the Australian Warehousing Association.

According to Australian Warehousing Association, the National Forklift Championship has continued to grow and is becoming a way for many companies to raise forklift safety awareness.

Heats are open to people with a valid forklift licence and will begin late February, early March. The final will take place on 28 October 2010 in Sydney.

In addition, the Australian Warehousing Association says 2010 forklift training and assessment will move from the Accredited Provider system to the VET sector. Registered training organisations will be the only way a person can become trained and licensed in forklift operation and many other types of plant and equipment.

According to the association, this will create confusion while it is in transition and many current operators may not be competent under this new system of licensing.
