National Electric Vehicle Strategy 2023-24 update released

The National Electric Vehicle Strategy update for 2023-24 has been released, detailing the EV landscape in Australia alongside future plans.

Since the release of the Strategy in April 2023, the EV landscape in Australia has transformed at an unprecedented pace.

Increased EV model availability and affordability has meant Australia’s EV uptake and charging infrastructure has nearly doubled over the last year.

The objective of the released strategy is to increase the uptake of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to reduce the emissions and wellbeing of Australians.

The strategy targeted six specific priorities and measured how the government is progressing towards these outcomes, including:

  • expanded EV availability and choice
  • reduce road transport emissions
  • make it easy to charge an EV across Australia
  • increase local manufacturing and recycling
  • make EVs more affordable
  • reduce the cost to Australians of running their vehicles.
