Major fire at Mumbai tyre factory

Fire broke out at in Mumbai, at Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg between Bhandup and Nahur station on Sunday. No casualties were reported.

As The Times of India reports, local authorities said that the fire broke out at CEAT's tyre manufacturing unit at around 5.50 pm.

No casualties were reported but three people, including two firefighters were injured in the fire. The firefighters were hurt by water jets while fighting the fire.

The other injured person received first aid at Agarwal hospital in Mulund.

"The warehouse though functional was shut on Sunday and had a watchman on duty. There were chemicals and tyres present in the warehouse. We have yet to ascertain if anybody is trapped inside. We will take over four hours to douse the fire. It will take whole night for the cooling operations," said the chief fire officer AN Verma.

The fire also caused disruptions to nearby rail services.

"While we did not stop the train services, we diverted trains from the slow to the fast tracks from 6pm," CR spokesman AK Singh said.
