ELSEVIER has recently released a new Industrial Press book, entitled Machine Shop Trade Secrets, a guide to manufacturing machine shop practices by James A. Harvey.

The book is designed to be an essential guide for those seeking to improve their machining skills, and aims to have readers thinking or producing like an experienced machinist by the end of the last chapter.

It includes easy-to-understand ‘how to’ tips and tricks for shop owners, machinists, designers and students alike and provides illustrations, charts, tables and practical examples, allowing users to understand all the concepts explained in each of 18 chapters.

Harvey’s no-nonsense approach to listing machining rules of thumb is an effective way to share his valuable knowledge.

The chapters provide readers with advice about how to work faster, correctly select, make and grind cutters, surface-grind blocks, pin and shapes, cut threads, knurl parts and eliminate warp as well as choose realistic feeds, speeds and depths of cut.
