Liverpool has world-class strengths in advanced manufacturing, according to recent research by the University of Cambridge.
The Financial Times reports the university’s Institute for Manufacturing has found that the city and its fringes have particular strengths in advanced industrial practises such as additive manufacturing and “lightweighting”.
High-value added manufacturing was much more prevalent compared to the national average, with 30 per cent of local manufacturing jobs involving high-value processes, way above the United Kingdom average of seven per cent.
Local businesses include Jaguar Land Rover (automotive), BAC (supercars), Signmatex (carbon fibre technology) and Dairy Crest (food and beverage).
