Latest Japanese advances in lean manufacturing

WHAT DO companies like Toyota, Honda, Canon, Kawai, Mazda, and Panasonic have in common?

They are innovative, manufacture in an isolated country which imports all its energy and raw materials and operates with labour costs approx twice that of Australia.

Yet they continue to confound USA critics by producing more patents per head and producing enviable profit margins with low working capital and inventory.

On the other side of the Pacific, companies in the USA are finding they cannot compete with the Toyota and Honda juggernaut.

How these companies do it and what can we learn?

Dr John Blakemore, Research and Development Advisor to the Federal Government on Commercial Ready (2001- 2007), and National President of the Manufacturing Society of Australia, will answer some of these questions and showcase findings from his latest trip to some of the World’s best manufacturing companies.

The organisers say the event promises to be an important evening of interaction and debate and say that while it is a free event, donations to The Manufacturing Society of Australia would be welcomed and appreciated.

Places are limited so early registration is encouraged.

ManSA seminar will be held on Monday 26 November at Engineering House, 21 Bedford St, Melbourne, 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
