Last Australian-made Ford engine comes off the line at Geelong

The last six-cylinder and V8 engines were produced at Geelong yesterday, part of the company’s staged shutdown and finishing with the last vehicle being produced at Broadmeadows on October 7.

News Corp reports that about 200 workers were in attendance for the send-off at the factory, which opened in 1925 to make cars and engines and switched to engines and metal stamping in 1959.

This follows the production of the last Falcon ute on July 29.

“We’re obviously working towards the end of production and to support that there will be different milestones that happen along the way including the end of engine production,” Ford said in a statement reported by Wheels.

“But all our employees will be with us until October 7, that’s when we’ll pay tribute to them on that day.”
