Professor Roy Green, appointed to undertake the Review of Australia’s Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industries is calling for submissions to provide views, insights and forward-thinking ideas to the review.
Professor Green will be supported by a Reference Group which is drawn from industry and union groups, the research and education community, and includes a senior economist.
“The TCF industries, represent a major manufacturing sector and a significant part of the Australian economy. At present these industries are experiencing considerable global and domestic pressures – a commitment to innovation and increased productivity will be necessary to secure their long-term future,” Professor Green said.
In calling for submissions, Professor Green said the review would be conducted with a commitment to close consultation. He encouraged those with an interest in the future of the TCF industries in Australia to take this opportunity to contribute to the review.
“In addition to receiving submissions, the review will undertake a round of public consultations in the major capital cities. We look forward to hearing fresh, invigorating and practical ideas on how Australia can develop and maintain TCF industries which are both sustainable and internationally competitive,” Professor Green said.
Professor Green said the TCF Review would be conducted concurrently with the Review of the National Innovation System and would be informed by the findings of that review.
He also said that the Productivity Commission would undertake modelling on the economy-wide effects of future assistance options and that the Commission’s modelling would be made publicly available.
