ICN welcomes the Federal Governments defence announcement

Industry Capability Network (ICN) welcomes the announcement from the Federal Government that Australian Defence companies will now have a greater opportunity to deliver on the needs of major Defence projects, as a result of the new initiatives announced by The Hon. Pat Conroy, today.

The Federal Government released a master plan that defines the strategic rationale for a sovereign defence industrial base and sets out pathways for maximising support for Australian industry and its critical contribution to national security. The announcement included increased funding for defence industry grants programs, taking the total investment to $183.8 million, in alignment with the Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS).

The DIDS highlights the need to pursue closer industrial collaboration and integration with trusted partners. This includes co-development, co-production and co-sustainment opportunities as well as improving the measurement of industrial capability and capacity.

Defence is working on analysing and mapping the sovereign defence industrial base and its many supply chains. This includes collaboration with trusted international partners, including assessments of capability, capacity and resilience to meet Defence’s requirements. Defence will draw on a range of information sources to build this data, including the Industry Capability Network (ICN).

ICN, supported by the Commonwealth Government Department of Industry, ensures that local suppliers have full, fair and reasonable opportunity to access public and private projects. To date, ICN’s work has helped facilitate contracts for local suppliers valued at over $53B+, creating thousands of jobs and significantly expanding local industry participation.

“ICN works across multiple sectors and with the Australian Government in relation to the Buy Australia Plan and the National Reconstruction Fund as well as Defence, to support local Industry. Our aim is to ensure that supply chains are resilient and sustainable, so that we can grow and build Sovereign Capability; aligned to the Defence Industry Development Strategy announced by Minister Pat Conroy today” said ICN National Office, CEO, Warren Jansen.

ICN encourages businesses to join its key platform: Gateway, to receive alerts of newly listed projects and work packages and take advantage of some of Gateway’s key features, such as automated Quad Charts and Capability Statements, which are relevant to promoting sovereign capability.
