Heat Treatment Australia (HTA) has opened its new aerospace and defence facility in Coopers Plains, Brisbane.
The new aerospace and defence thermal processing facility will help plug capacity and capability gaps in the Joint-Strike Fighter (JSF) 35’s build and sustainment programs. The facility is expected to employ 14 people.
The new facility provides key processing capability which was previously unavailable within Australia. Capability constraints were identified at the inception of the Australian F-35 program and it was recognised that there were gaps in the country’s abilities to fill RFI and work packages.
The facility is also expected to provide product flow improvements and increased processing capacity in titanium processing, vacuum carburising, inert argon and nitrogen processing, nickel alloy and super-alloy processing and 25 bar materials cooling technology.
HTA told Manufacturers Monthly that since its involvement in the F-35 program, A$12 million has been invested in research and development and the company has its expanded its operations by 17,000 square feet.
The company currently provides thermal processing to many large manufacturers including Lockheed Martin, BAE, Harris, Cobham, Parker, Boeing, Goodrich Landing Gear, Goodrich UK.
