Hella opens new $12m production line in Victoria

Industry minister, senator Kim Carr, has welcomed the opening of Hella Australia’s state-of-the-art production line in Mentone, Victoria.

The $12 million ‘Kaizen’ line will produce Australian-made lights for Toyota’s Camry, hybrid Camry and Aurion models.

Carr said the partnership between Toyota Motor Corporation Australia and Hella is a fine example of innovation, collaboration and investment in the future.

“Hella’s forward-looking investment shows just the kind of resilience and confidence that will help Australian manufacturing ride out the global economic storm,” Carr said.

The Government is providing $35 million through the Green Car Innovation Fund as part of a co-investment deal with Toyota to manufacture the hybrid Camry at the company’s Altona plant in Victoria from 2010.

Toyota expects production of the hybrid Camry to result in more than $80 million worth of purchases throughout the Victorian and South Australian automotive components industry.
