Grant helps take garage doors to new heights

AN idea to manufacture garage doors using a single-line production system has been achieved by South Australian company, Gliderol.

“We wanted to develop a system that would let us manufacture three types of doors from one production line,” Ben Lumbers, Gliderol’s group GM, said.

“We also wanted to make sure we developed a system that could be shipped around the world.”

A Commercial Ready grant of $1.4m from AusIndustry helped the company to achieve both of its goals.

“When we started out our idea was to develop the system to a competitive price and make it in a modular form that could be containerised and shipped around the world,” Lumbers said.

Gliderol has shipped its production line to its plant in the UK.

“We brought in Gliderol licensees to view the production line in action.

“We thought it would be a better marketing tool if our potential overseas customers saw the production line working first hand, rather than just showing them a video or pictures.

“Potential customers from Europe or the UK are more likely to travel to see our new production line if it is set up over there.

“So far, one of the USs’ and one of the UK’s largest door manufacturers have implemented our production line and we have had interest from a number of Middle East companies,” Lumber said.
