Gillard names manufacturing leaders group boss

Ian Thomas, Boeing’s president in Australia and South Pacific, has been appointed as head of the federal government’s manufacturing leaders group.

AAP reports that the group’s job will include helping the federal government implement the recommendations of the PM’s manufacturing taskforce.

The appointment was announced at the opening of a Toyota hybrid factory yesterday, which received $63 million in funding from the Green Car Innovation fund.

In addition to the leaders’ group, an Automotive Supplier Advocate and a food industry Industrial Transformation Research Program were announced.

"We want to keep working with you, the car industry and manufacturing, and these are the next three steps for the future," said prime minister Julia Gillard.
