Full power to be missing at Arrium Whyalla until next Tuesday: administrator

The South Australian blackout is causing around $4 million a day to be lost at the Arrium Whyalla steelworks, with administrators saying power might not resume until next Tuesday.

The results of the September 28 storms are costing around 3,500 tonnes of lost production at the site.

“They’re still not producing any steel … and they’ve been told they won’t get full power back until Tuesday next week,” administrator KordaMentha told The Australian.

Last week it was reported that metal had solidified in the caster plant, and this would take an expected three days to weld out.

The Arrium group of companies went into administration in April. A buyer for Arrium Australia (including the Whyalla site) is being sought, with the Moly-Cop grinding media business sold separately.
