EDGE Software has printed over 30,000 CDs containing the Solid Edge free 2D CAD software, with around half the CDs inserted in the November issue of Manufacturers’ Monthly.
Barry Bevis MD of Edge Software said that Siemens UGS had decided to take the highly capable 2D product in the full version of Solid Edge and make it available to industry as a stand alone product at no cost.
“New versions will be released in line with full 3D version of Solid Edge and will be made available by downloading” the software or requesting a new CD from us (Edge Software) directly,” Bevis said.
Solid Edge 2D Drafting is said to offer excellent drawing layout, diagramming, annotation and dimensioning controls that automatically comply with a wide range of drafting standards – including ISO, ANSI, BSI, DIN, JIS and UNI.
Solid Edge 2D Drafting includes a number of tools designed to ease the transition of 2D AutoCAD users updating to Solid Edge, including import wizards, WYSIWYG of imported files (matching of AutoCAD fonts and colour schemes).
The CD includes a full working copy of Solid Edge 2D and an interactive tour of Solid Edge 3D.
