Foxconn looks to Indian manufacturing potential

Foxconn has said it plans to create 1 million new jobs and 10 – 12 new manufacturing facilities in India.

Terry Gou, head of the Taiwan-based company (which is also the world’s biggest consumer electronics contract manufacturer), visited India last week. This included stops in Delhi and Mumbai on Friday and Bangalore on Saturday.

His firm also planned to create new data centres, tech incubators and a venture fund, report livemint.com and others.

"We will help local companies and help them design, and manufacture components and devices locally, enabling them to start export," The Economic Times reports him as saying.

Gou also said the Indian government had been more supportive of manufacturing than previous ones. Foxconn had previously manufactured in Chennai, but abandoned this due to labour disputes.

Foxconn manufactures for tech firms including Apple, Amazon and Cisco.
