Ford to source parts locally beyond 2016

Ford Australia will continue to source parts from Australian car component makers after it ceases its local manufacturing operations in 2016.

According to AAP, the company will source parts from 63 local component makers and also plans to help more local aftermarket parts suppliers get work in Ford’s global supply chain.

Ford will close its Broadmeadows car factory and Geelong engine plant on 7 October 2016.

The company posted a $191 million loss last year, its seventh loss in the past ten years.

Nevertheless, the company will retain its presence in this country. The company is investing more than $300 million in R&D this year.
