The Ford Mustang will return to Australia in 2016. This will be the first time the famous car has been available in this country since the 1960s.
News.com.au reports that the Mustang will make its return in the same year that Ford will permanently cease manufacturing cars in Australia.
The news will be made official by Ford's global vice president of sales and marketing, Jim Farley, who will fly to Australia make the announcement in August.
The early announcement of the decision is an attempt to reassure the Australian public that, despite the factory closures, Ford will continue to import cars to Australia.
At the time of his announcement that the Broadmeadows and Geelong plants would be closing, Ford Australia boss Bob Graziano also announced that Ford planned to increase its model range by 30 per cent with more imported cars.
One of the world’s iconic cars, over 1 million Mustangs were sold in the first year of the car’s availability in the US.
In 2016, Australia will not receive the current Mustang but the new model.
