DMG/Mori Seiki Australia appoints new president

DMG/Mori Seiki, a leading CNC machine tool provider, has appointed Stefan Weiwadel as its new president.

Together with vice president and QCD manager Wada Tetsuji, Weiwadel will reportedly lead the company’s expansion efforts into new and existing markets.

He brings to the job an impressive track record for success, having served more than 25 years at leading international tooling companies where he held multiple executive positions.

Weiwadel is said to have extensive experience in cutting and machine tool technology sales, and prior to joining DMG/Mori Seiki in July 2010 as general manager for the South-East-Asian market, he spent two years as general manager with a local company in Singapore.

After German machine tool builder GILDEMEISTER AG commenced joint sales and services with the Japanese machine tool manufacturer Mori Seiki Co Ltd in Australia on 1 March 2010, the joint company DMG/Mori Seiki Australia is a now market leader in Australia, and plans to increase its market share to 50%, Weiwadel says.

“While we see huge potential for growth in the mining industry in WA and QLD as well as general engineering in all states, I believe we will see long-term growth coming from the local aerospace sector,” Weiwadel says.

He anticipates positive impacts on DMG / MORI SEIKI sales through the Joint Force Strike Fighter (JSF) Program, which has recently been restructured.

The Australian Government approved the acquisition of the first 14 aircraft in November 2009 and the first two aircraft will be delivered in 2014.

With the combined strength of two leading global machine tool builders, DMG / MORI SEIKI offers solutions for 95% of all metalcutting applications.

While the company offers high-end, quality CNC lathes, 5-axis milling machines, mill/turns and ultrasonic laser machines, not all machines come with the high price tag, Weiwadel emphasises.

“We work closely with our customers to ensure that they have the best possible solutions for their machining needs,” he says.

“When it comes to economical turning and milling products, DMG offers its ECOLINE range of machines. The idea behind the design is to deliver DMG’s usual high quality standard through consistent standardisation and a simple, reliable machine construction that has an unbeatable price-performance ratio.”
