David Cruickshanks-Boyd has been appointed deputy national president of Engineers Australia for 2014 and has been designated as national president for 2015.
Adelaide Now reports that Cruickshanks-Boyd, the South Australian regional director of Parsons Brinckerhoff, has had a long association with the professional body. He was SA president of the organisation in 2011 and at a national level has also served as a councillor and on strategic committees.
He told Adelaide Now that he would like to modernise the governance model of Engineers Australia and was interested in establishing deep community engagement.
“My overriding objective during my term of office will be to see Engineers Australia increasingly recognised and valued as a life-long professional home for all Australian engineers,” he said.
“In my professional projects I have always sought to create a better future for the communities we serve, and I believe firmly that this is my primary obligation as an engineer.”
Sustainability is one of Cruickshanks-Boyd’s areas of interest. He is currently the national director for sustainability at Parsons Brinckerhoff and, at Engineers Australia, he helped draft a new code of ethics for engineers which included an obligation to promote sustainability.
In addition, he is a founder member of SA Chiefs for Gender Equity, a group which focuses on the advancement of women in the workforce.
In 2015, Cruickshanks-Boyd will take over as president of Engineers Australia from the current president, Sydney chemical engineer Marlene Kanga.
