A local business owner and president of the South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance has said companies in Dandenong South are suffering from delayed connection to the National Broadband Network.
The Greater Dandenong Leader reports that Simon Whiteley, owner of Corex Plastics and president of SEMMA, said that he was in line for fast broadband in early 2015, but a change in government meant changed priorities for who received fast broadband. There seemed to be an emphasis on residents and voters over business, the businessman said.
“We are having to spend about 40 to 50 times more than what we would be paying if we had NBN in order to maintain our competitiveness in a global market,” Whiteley told the Leader.
His frustration was compounded by an NBN cable passes “literally… past our door.”
The Greater Dandenong Council has heard of frequent problems in some areas of the Local Government Area, and they would write the federal government requesting action.
