AN AUSTRALIAN compressed air specialist has recently achieved one million production hours without a ‘lost workday case’.
For nearly four years, all of Champion Compressors work places, both its own manufacturing facility and its customers’ sites, have remained injury-free.
Simon Meyrick, environmental health and safety (EH&S) coordinator for Champion, said the company nurtures a culture of safety among its employees and considers this its priority.
“A safety-conscious and confident workforce is inherently efficient, which results in more cost-effective products for the end user,” Meyrick said.
The compressor company adopts a three-pronged safety strategy, implementing initiatives which target safety in the final products, corporate administration and field services.
Products are designed to have safety built-in, while prudent management directives ensure best-practice methods are employed on the shop floor.
In the field services sector, the company’s service department targets safe operations, even in the most unfamiliar environments. It is this company-wide safety culture that sets Champion Compressors apart from its competitors.
“Champion is achieving these high standards of safety by empowering its staff through regular training, re-enforcement and equality among its employees,” Meyrick said.
“This directive comes all the way from senior management and drives the company’s pursuit of safety awareness.”
