Coffs engineering firm to bid aggressively for submarine work

Coffs Harbour engineering firm W.E. Smith has said it will big aggressively for submarine work, following a difficult period that saw it put in administration.

The ABC reports that the company recently came out of six months in administration, and is a previous supplier of heat exchangers and engine coolers for the Collins class submarine fleet.

“Going through administration is a tough process … the situation we have now is temporary and we very much see the light at the end of the tunnel,” operations manager Harlan Cooper told the ABC.

“When we win jobs we’ll be increasing the workforce accordingly.”

Eight decades-old W.E. Smith is a maker of heat exchange equipment and autoclaves. It entered administration in May last year, during a difficult period for engineering companies.
