The chairman of South Australia’s Economic Development Board, Raymond Spencer, has said that closer engagement with India would be beneficial for the state’s advanced manufacturing sector.
SA premier Jay Weatherill will visit India this week for meetings including one with Ratan Tata, chairman of giant Indian conglomerate Tata Group. Weatherill’s trip also include appointments with government officials and industry leaders at various events including the Confederation of Indian Industry and OzFest.
Spencer has highlighted the benefits that increased trade with India could provide to advanced manufacturing, which is predicted to grow significantly as an employer in the state.
"There are huge amounts of industrial research and development and consumer services invested in manufacturing," he told Adelaide Now.
"SA has identified manufacturing as a crucial component of its international knowledge economy."
